Zhang Chenxi – Artist Introduction

  • Founder of the "Morning Dawn Color Ink School" and "The Breaker of Traditional Ink Barriers," Zhang Chenxi is a renowned new school Chinese ink artist. Born in 1953 in Xi’an, with ancestral roots in Hebei and having grown up in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, he now resides on Xianlu Island, by the Pearl River, in Foshan.

  • In his later years, Zhang retreated to his studio on Xianlu Island, Foshan, where he continued his work. In 2023, Zhang held a solo exhibition of his traditional Chinese ink paintings in Foshan. His bold use of color and free, unconstrained style (as described by the Huasheng Morning News) shook the art world, earning him the title of "The Breaker of Traditional Ink Barriers."

  • In 2025, at the age of 72, Zhang transformed his studio on Xianlu Island into the "Hidden Lu Contemporary Art Space," which was opened to the public for the first time. The space exhibited a large collection of classic works created by Zhang and An Jisike, both individually and collaboratively, spanning from the 1980s to the present. On weekends, Zhang personally welcomes art enthusiasts from all walks of life to visit.
